Rewire Health proudly announces its collaboration with the Corbin Hill Food Project to advance community-led food programs and promote sovereignty.

About Corbin Hill Food Project:

Corbin Hill Food Project is a Harlem-based non-profit with a focus on racial equity and food sovereignty. With over a decade of experience piloting programs and distributing local farm-fresh produce to NYC communities, CH aims to supply fresh food with dignity and joy while advocating for BIPOC farmers and building a more equitable, sustainable food system. With support from the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), Corbin Hill's innovative Food is Medicine program aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of produce prescription models in addressing community health disparities and food and nutrition security.

Rewire Health's Commitment to Sovereignty:

Rewire Health shares Corbin Hills' dedication to enhancing health equity by addressing the food system's sociocultural, structural, and economic barriers. Leveraging culinary medicine and technology, Rewire Health’s Pursuit App personalizes nutrition resources and experiences based on language, dietary preferences, and access needs. Additionally, value lies in data analytics, which illuminates user preferences, trends, and operational efficiencies. Through this work, these organizations are tackling sovereignty across two fronts:

Data sovereignty emphasizes individuals' or organizations' control over their data, ensuring local laws and governance compliance. It underscores ownership, security, and autonomy, enabling communities to safeguard digital assets and privacy while harnessing data's power for their benefit. Rewire Health collaborates with Corbin Hill to collect data safely and transparently, aiming to enhance the quality of their food assistance program, support targeted, non-extractive research, and facilitate future funding opportunities while meeting current funders' requirements.

Food and nutrition sovereignty encompasses the fundamental right of people to access healthy, culturally appropriate food through systems defined and owned by the community that support the local food system. These goals extend beyond food and include nutrition education and counseling. Rewire Health and Corbin Hill empower local chefs, makers, and community ambassadors including its Community Council to create recipe content that provides an origin story and credits the person, culture, and tradition it represents. Rewire Health’s novel ingredient exchange feature customizes food preferences on the individual level, promoting the autonomy of choice and enhancing recipe acceptance.

Corbin Hill Food Projects employees and community leaders are excited to start implementing Rewire Health across food distribution sites. See what they are saying:
